If you have fished from shore but are looking for more, a kayak may be what you are looking for…

Want to make the dive into Kayak Fishing? Are you leery of making beginner mistakes? Having a hard time finding dependable information to help get you started? Looking to take your kayak fishing game to the next level? Then you will want to join us at the Midwest Kayak Fishing Symposium. Back after a few years break, MKFS is an interactive informational and educational event for all levels of kayak anglers. People just getting involved in the sport to more seasoned anglers will find something to help them get what all anglers want….chances to catch more fish!

Details

A four-hour interactive seminar and demo paddle. During the event, members of the Rocktown Adventures Fishing Team will present on the following topics. All have them have experience tournament fishing and have done countless modifications and rigging to their kayaks. Take advantage of their knowledge! Each presentation will be 30 – 45 minutes in duration.

Paddling Techniques: Introduction to basic paddling strokes and safety techniques.
River Fishing Techniques: How to navigate and read a river to catch more fish
Tournament Fishing: How to get started, do’s and don’ts, best practices
Kayak Rigging: Options to rig your kayak to fit your fishing needs

In addition to the information, attendees can demo paddle fishing kayaks to learn what fits their kayak fishing needs or decide if kayak fishing is something they want to pursue. Use our experience to ask questions so you can avoid the mistakes we made getting into the sport! We will have rigging accessories and paddles on hand for purchase. As a bonus to the great info and paddling opportunities, attendees will receive a coupon for 15% off kayak accessories. You must attend the event to receive a coupon. Just registering will not qualify.

The MKFS will take place on Olson Lake at Rock Cut State Park. The event will be staged by the dock on the west part of the lake. Due to road construction on the east side of the park, Olson Lake is only accessible from the Harlem Road entrance. You cannot access Olson Lake from the Rte. 173 entrance.

#OptOutside Hike: November 25

This has become a great annual tradition at Rocktown Adventures. Each year we choose to Opt Out of the chaos of Black Friday and take a nice relaxing hike with friends and family instead. After what we do to ourselves at the table the day before, it is greatly needed! Plus we like to take our holidays one day at a time. Let the turkey digest before we move on to the holidays. 

This year’s iteration of #OptOutside will be at Severson Dells Nature Center. We will meet in the parking lot at 10:30 AM, then enjoy a casual hour or so stroll around The Dells. Kids are not only welcome, but they are also encouraged to attend! There is no charge to join this activity.  In fact, we are going to give you something for attending! All participants will receive a coupon for $10 off any apparel purchase of $50 or more. This coupon is in addition to our Holiday Sale, which you can see below! FISHING KAYAKS ARE NOT JUST FOR FISHING!

Waterfowl season is almost upon us. And while I cannot claim to have any experience with kayak hunting, we have a couple of guys on our Kayak Fishing Team that have put some birds in their boat. Find out what these seasoned kayak anglers and hunters do to get ready for the season during our in store seminar, Waterfowl from a Kayak on Wednesday, September 14, from 6-7:30PM.  See for yourself how they use their NuCanoe fishing kayaks and accessories to land more than just fish. It will be Fall before you know it! 

During this seminar, Rocktown Adventures Kayak Fishing Team Members, Brian Schiller and Brad Hurlebaus, will demonstrate how they outfit their NuCanoe kayaks for hunting season. Best thing about fishing kayaks is they allow you to access water not reachable by motorboat or foot. Go where other hunters cannot go and find birds other hunters cannot hunt. This is the biggest advantage you get by hunting from a kayak! You can launch a kayak virtually anywhere and access some really far-back places. You can paddle into beaver ponds, oxbow lakes, and flooded timber, where all you have to do is put out a few decoys.

It is Almost Fall, which Means…Time for Our Fall Paddling Series

We will touch all rivers in Winnebago County, plus two different sections on the Fox. Our Fall paddling group outings include all the outdoor equipment you need (or you can bring your own) as well as a refresher on paddling strokes and safety, experienced guides, a relaxed social setting for you to meet like-minded people, and the opportunity to take on new challenges and outdoor adventures.

We Revisit this Topic Each Fall…Paddling in Colder Weather 

When paddling later in the year, it is important to pay attention to the combined air and water temperature. The baseline is 120 degrees combined. Anything below that, and various levels of protective clothing are required. The good news is we’re paddling in smaller rivers, so we are never far from shore which means on dry land quick. It is rare that a “swim” occurs, but we need to be prepared just in case. If protective clothing is required due to temps on any of these adventures, we will be sure to reach out to all participants.

There’s still two months left in paddle season and plenty of time to experience the outdoors on the water. We hope to see you on an adventure this Fall!
