Don’t let Old Man Winter keep you from getting your paddle on.
We have Paddling Pool Events on tap to quench your paddling thirst, starting January 13. Take advantage of this opportunity to learn a new skill in a comfortable and controlled environment at the Boylan High School Aquatic Center. We provide kayaks, paddles and PFDs for all of our events. If you own your own equipment, you are welcome to bring it – that is what you are going to spend your time paddling in after all. There is a different fee for those with their own gear. We ask that you please make sure your equipment is washed down before using it in the pool. A quick description of each Paddlesports Pool Event can be found below. Click here for a full description of our class offerings.
Intro to Kayaking
Our Intro to Kayaking class is perfect for those who have maybe rented a few times and want to learn more, or someone who is new to the sport and may appreciate the controlled environment of a pool as their first paddling experience. Youth are welcome and we do have the proper sized equipment for as small as 4 feet tall and 40 lb kids. The only requirement is they cannot detract from the experience of the other participants. So long as you are confident in that, bring’em out! My 6 yr old daughter has been out a few times.
Safety & Rescue
Our Safety & Rescue class is the next step in your progression towards self sufficient paddling. Intro to Kayaking is not required prior to participating in this class, but you need to have had prior paddling experience and be confident in your ability to safely paddle.
Open Pool Sessions
Like free swim at the local pool, but with kayaks. While not a class per se, there will be knowledgeable paddlers on site so you will walk away with some knowledge along with some fun paddling conversation. If you are interested in test paddling a kayak to learn what may fit your needs best, our Open Pool Session is the perfect opportunity. Please contact us to let us know what types of kayaks you are interested in paddling. And while we do not offer SUP classes in the pool, we are happy to provide one for you to use during one of our Open Pool Sessions.
Sessions are 3 hours long, from 3:30 PM – 6:30 PM on the dates listed below:
January 13: Intro to Kayaking
January 20: Safety & Rescue
January 27: Open Pool
February 10: Intro to Kayaking
February 17: Safety & Rescue
March 3: Intro to Kayaking
