Midwest Kayak Fishing Symposium
May 20 @ 9:00 am - May 21 @ 12:00 pm
Calling all anglers… and anglers to be! Rocktown Adventures will be hosting the 2nd Annual Midwest Kayak Fishing Symposium May 20-21 at Rock Cut State Park in Loves Park, IL. (Hopefully will be a little warmer than last year’s inaugural event!) Rock Cut State Park is home to Pierce Lake and Olson Lake, providing plenty of opportunity to get a line wet. In addition to the lakes there are great hiking and biking trails, so plenty to do outdoors!
Join us to learn all you can about kayak fishing in one day!
Fishing kayaks will be available for test paddles at Olson Lake from 9 AM – 3 PM on Saturday May 20, and will include models from NuCanoe, Jackson Kayak, Native Watercraft, Old Town, and Perception. Kayaks, paddles, PFDs (life jacket) and basic paddling instruction will be provided. Bring your fishing gear and test out multiple kayaks in 15-20 minute paddles to learn what fits you best. Make a few casts to see how a fishing kayak can help you get what we all want…more fish! What can you accessorize your kayak with? Where do you like to stage your rods? How does your tackle box fit with the kayak? Can you fit a cooler or mount a fish finder? These and other questions can be best answered by going out and paddling a few different models.
Fishing from the pier at Olson or Pierce Lake is fun for all ages, so bring the little ones out as well. We will have tandem kayaks on hand, so you can take your child(ren) out on the water and paddle around, giving them and a you an idea of how easily you can have an authentic outdoor experience right here in Northern Illinois. Along with the test paddles on Saturday May 20, we will have seminars on kayak fishing topics such as cold weather paddling tips and safety and rescue. The schedule of seminars is still being determined.
The price for this experience is just $10, with all proceeds benefiting the Chicagoland Chapter of Heroes On The Water, where we can help with their mission to help warriors relax, rehabilitate and reintegrate through kayak fishing and the outdoors. Please call our Rockford location at 815-636-9066 or sign up below to register for the Symposium.
Following the demo paddles and seminars, we are going camping and kayak fishing on Pierce Lake in the park. Will launch around 530 or 600 for the “night bite” and will launch at 730 AM and fish until noon or so on Sunday for the “morning bite”. Those that want to camp are responsible for making their own camp site reservations. Visit Reserve America for fees and site availability. Rocktown Adventures has camp sites 51, 55, 57, 59, and 60 in the Hickory Hills Loop reserved, so try to reserve a site near here. We will have an early community BBQ provided by us in this area and then Head Out on Pierce Lake for some early evening fishing. For those that want to camp but need a kayak, fishing kayaks are available for rent for $25 for the Night Paddle and $25 for the Morning Paddle. Please give us a call at 815-636-9066 to reserve a kayak for either or both of the paddles. Sorry for the hassle of making you call, but it is the easiest way to make sure we do not overbook kayaks for rent.
We hope you will come out and enjoy Rock Cut State Park and all it has to offer while gaining some knowledge on the sport of Kayak Fishing and supporting a great cause. Please give us a call at 815-636-9066, 630-506-5706, or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions regarding this event.
